Saree With A Twist

With festive season around the corner, there have been quite a few requests on my Instagram about some ideas on festive outfits. Well, I have two main versions of festive looks in my mind currently. One, which involves bold experimentation of the blend of fashion and tradition and the other being, the usual effortless ethnic styles which everyone could happily carry 🙂

Let me go with the first i.e experimenting with fashion in this blog post and the second one would be lined up for the next week. Stay Tuned 😀

Six yards of Indian saree allows one to create insane variety of looks, due to the flexibility and the length of the fabric. One of my previous posts showed how to style a saree with denim and this one would be another turn-around. This saree is older than me 😛 , probably 26 years, I obviously picked it from my mom’s wardrobe.

I remember I saw my granny wearing saree in a dhoti style (with the usual pallu style).I still find people in some of the remote villages wearing it in that manner. My granny is definitely a trend setter 🙂 Taking cue from her style, I styled this saree as a dhoti with a front pallu and accessorized with a wide belt to give a different look to the saree. You could also use corset belts instead of the normal ones, I didn’t have one so I wore the normal one.

As you know, silver jewellery is my best companion to slay any look- so, I used my weapon here. I used a crop top as blouse for this look 🙂

I wanted to give a crude look to my hair, so left it untouched in my usual messy and wavy texture.

If you love experimenting in a subtle way but not the bold way, here are some styling tips for the festive season 🙂

  • Use an off-shoulder top / crop-top as a blouse
  • Change your hairstyle- may be, go for a half bun
  • Include statement sleeves in your usual blouse patterns
  • Wear a long ethnic overcoat on your saree, may be something like this

Stay connected through Instagram to find out more such tips 🙂

Here goes the look 🙂

Wardrobe Revamp

Now that the wedding season is around, I guess most of you might be bored of wearing the same old lehengas or sarees. We might not always want to spend a fortune on buying new outfits for each occasion. It would be best if we know how to use our wardrobe staples to give a different look to those classic lehengas or sarees and to accessories as well.

Few styling tips  that might help you :

  • Use that white shirt to pair it with a bright lehenga
  • Use a plain off-shoulder top(black/white) as a blouse to your classic saree
  • While using the staples, ensure that the shirt or top is plain.Avoid fussy prints.
  • Use any heavy earring as maang tikka
  • Pick that sleek chains that you have and wear them as waist chains

Here is one look that I put together using a white shirt and my old lehanga skirt.I paired it with a beads chain, a septum ring and a earring which I used as maang tikka.

Hope you like it 🙂

Tulle On Focus

Soft and fine-net fabric ,versatile enough to be styled as a dress or skirt or top is being embraced by most of the fashion enthusiasts. The fabric is known as tulle and this tulle trend, I should say, brought out the creativity of styling a dress with jeans.

Wondering how one could wear a dress with jeans !!!

Styling a dress with jeans gives a complete different and refreshing look.Comfort and fashion go hand in hand. This trend can be aced if you could remember a few things before you style:

  • Monochrome dresses(body-hugging dresses), mini dresses don’t go well with jeans (strict ‘NO”)
  • Midi skater flowy dresses would be the most apt choice
  • Slim fit jeans preferred over boyfriend jeans

In this look, I have paired a midi tulle dress with torn-jeans, a simple white top, and sneakers.I prefer to have simple earrings for this look but I choose to go with a bunch of pearl bracelets so that they sync with my white sneakers.

Here goes the look 😀

Wild In Green

It’s all about the greens, cut-outs and head-scarfs. The wildness captured in the background brings the shades of green into focus. Pairing a maxi with different accessories gives unique looks every time.

Head scarf and long shrug are my weapons for this look-book apart from the usual maxi look. The contrast color of the head scarf gave a bohemian vibe while the shrug seemed to add a semi-formal touch to the outfit. Each of these accessories accentuated the look of the maxi.As you know, when I try western wear,I prefer statement jewellery. In this case, I picked statement earrings and kept it simple with no neck-piece.

Here goes the look !! Hope you enjoy it 🙂

East Meets West

Intricate fashion details of East combined with the never ending and super comfortable denim craze of West kick the fusion fashion up a notch. Silver jewellery, handloom clothing have always been my obsession and the challenge lies in bringing a completely unique look to the same old staples.

Spot me anywhere and anytime outside, you will see me slouching in an old pair of jeans and a XL tshirt. When your dearest saviour serves to ease your Indian outfit, that’s an impeccable combination.

I choose to play around with my favourite vegetable-dyed handloom saree, kalamkari blouse, and my jet black jeans. When it is handloom, it is silver jewellery that comes to the rescue to give that Indian vibe.Do you agree?

Here goes ” East meets West ” series 🙂

Modern Indian Woman- #Look103

Hey folks, I am back with another new post as a part of the Modern Indian Woman series.I can say that this look is more skewed towards ethnicity rather than Indo-western fusion.

#Look103

To everyone who wants to start trying Indian ethnic wear, I strongly recommend owning certain wardrobe staples- a plain black kurti and a plain white kurti , solid black and solid white colored leggings, and a beautiful dupatta. With these staples, you can easily flaunt two gorgeous ethnic looks.

For this post, I choose a black kurti along with black leggings and added a pop of color with a beautiful handmade dupatta. If you have been following my blog, then you must have noticed this dupatta in my Kolkata shopping experience post.Beautifully crafted by local tribals, this dupatta depicts kantha work on a thappa (combination of different pieces of clothes).I accentuated the look with afghani earrings, a hand-bag prepared by Rann of Kutch artisans and kolhapuris.

Here goes the look 🙂

Details:

Kurti : Myntra|Leggings : Lyra | Kolhapuris : Street buy | Bag : Krafted with Happiness | Dupatta : Biswa Bangla

Modern Indian Woman- #Look 102

In continuation to my Modern Indian Woman series for this month, it’s time to talk about the second look. This look is going to be about how you could use your modern tops or crop-tops over ethnic bottoms to give an Indo-western/fusion look.

#Look102

This look helps in bringing out the boldness of a Indian Woman along with the creative aspect. Maroon shade of the crochet top, being one of the main Indian ethnic colors accentuated the look. The tassel earrings and thread jewellery are this season must-haves and I could completely count on these to complete the look with a bohemian vibe.I have used one of the coral chains which I purchased in Andaman as a bracelet.

Without further delay, let me just show you the final look 🙂
